Swim little Fishy – (Weekly Update 28/7/17)
A day early with my weekly update but I thought an update was due. In a week when Michael Phelps didn’t race a shark but Usain Bolt raced a minion this post could so easily turn into a ‘Woah is Me’ pity party but I will try my best not to let that happen. So lets start with the main thing, I still haven’t been able to run. I think my predictions of when I could run were wildly optimistic. I haven’t been able to run for 11 days and as well as the obvious physical issues mentally it’s been even more difficult.
Let’s talk sprains, ankle sprains can be nasty especially those at the severe end. In a previous life I was a Radiographer so I’ve seen my fair share of fractured and sprained ankles. In some ways a nasty sprain can be worse or equal to some fractures of the ankle. At their worse they can take 6 to 8 weeks to recover or even months to fully get back to normal. Yes this sounds depressing, in previous times when I’ve sprained my ankle I’ve normally been able to run at least a week after the injury. This time however I seem to have done a more severe job on it. As my Mother used to say if you’re going to do a job do it properly. 10 days down the line I still have some swelling, the bruising has spread over my mid and forefoot and I am having some issues sleeping due to the pain and cramp that appears up the rest of my leg. Even though I’m 99% sure it’s just a serious sprain I will be popping to the Doctor to double-check and get some reassurance just due to the severity of it.
As I said in my previous post I am disappointed on many levels, obviously I miss my running but I also don’t want to let down the charities that I am raising money for this year. I will be back running but the timescale for that is in reality unknown. I have been unable to swim (which was my fallback) as I had an open wound from the fall. I will however be able to swim from Monday, this will hopefully enable me to keep some of my fitness whilst my ankle heals. It also enables me to keep my challenge going in some form. So from next week I will be swimming everyday, I’m not going to set myself a distance or a time as it will take me a few days to get back into it and to see how my foot copes with it as well. Hopefully then in a short time I will be back running as the idea of not being able to for several more weeks is too depressing.
I hope you will continue to support us in this modified challenge, I have been so amazed by the support already this year and with your help we have raised great funds for both UNICEF and Support Dogs.
On a positive note I will have a little more time so I plan to be adding a lot more content to this site and still expect lots of pictures of the Amigurumi Characters. They may not be able to come swimming with me but they will be travelling to and from the Pool so I will take photos where I can. I hope to be back running soon but as you can see there’s still a lot of life left in this years #amigurumicharityrun. Also some of this extra time enable’s me plan for some challenges for the remainder of the year when I can run. I am already in the planning stages for next year!
If you wish to Support me for the remainder of the year follow the link below for the general donations page for UNICEF. The months for Unicef are January, March, May, July, September and November.
If you wish to Support me for the remainder of the year follow the link below for the general donations page for SUPPORT DOGS. The months for Support Dogs are February, April, June, August, October and December.
Also keep an eye out for the Monthly Raffles where you can win the Amigurumi character that has been travelling with me as well as some other great extra’s. There will be a post on my blog every time the Raffle goes lives with links for you to buy your tickets (as these cannot be set up in advance and have to be made at the time).
July’s raffle will be live in the next few days, we have just been a bit delayed with my injury and my wife having a pretty tough time of it too. We hope that you’ll still consider getting some tickets for July’s Raffle when it’s live, I know I have only ran for about half the month but obviously that couldn’t be helped and the prizes are really good if I say so myself (Not the just Amigurumi Character Captain America but the extra’s too!).
I’d just like to say a big THANKYOU for all your support during this time, I have been finding it so difficult not being able to run especially as I loved doing our daily charity challenge and sharing photos of the Amigurumi character I ran with. I still can’t help but feel bad for letting down the charities whilst I can’t run but at least I can start swimming next week which will help as it will be great to get back to our charity challenge. As I have said it’s been really hard lately and this week I got a lovely boost, we had an email from Justgiving.com saying that one of our supporters had nominated us for an Award. We are not sure under which fundraising page they did it under as obviously we have a few (two for the main charities and then the monthly raffles) but we are both so thankful for this. I doubt we will win and to be honest that doesn’t matter, it’s the fact that one of our supporters nominated us for what we are doing and that means the world to us both. Please don’t feel you have to vote but if you’d like too check out the link below;
Should you nominate we’d suggest using one of our two main general donation pages (links given earlier) as this is where we take donations for what we do throughout the year whereas the raffle pages are only a monthly thing where each raffle needs a new page set up. Thanks again.
You can vote up till Midnight on Sunday the 6th of August 2o17.
