Adapt and Survive
One of my fellow Vegan Runners wrote a blog last week about adapting your training/Running plan. I flippantly replied on Twitter that I needed a plan first then I may have something to adapt. It’s a really nice piece though (I’ll link at the bottom). In reality we can all make excuses not to run so learning how to adapt your plans to unforeseen events is a vital tool to keep you running. I’ve had numerous issues over the past few months with my last one being totally out of action for 9 days with a nasty bug. So I’m just getting back into my stride and the universe throws another one in my way. For those of you who don’t know I’m the carer for my wife who has a disability and is long term ill. So I fit my running around that. Recently though she’s now having issues that mean in the mornings I cant leave her for more than 30 or 40 minutes and in the afternoons an hour at most.
For my running this is an issue I’m trying to build back my endurance base so for at least 3 or 4 days a week I want to be running at least 90 minutes and I also want to throw in some 2 and a half hour ones as well. So do I give up with this idea. No I start double running, it’s not quite the same as those long runs but at least doing 2 runs a day means I still get time on my feet. I’m a fan of double runs anyway even normally I throw at least one of these in the mix. So what happens if this issue continues when I want to do some 3 hour runs yep you guessed it I’ll do some triple runs. At the moment I need time on my feet so I can either give up or adapt. I vote for the latter.
Now go off and read Running Happy’s great blog HERE Also if you want to see how my double runs are going. Follow me on Strava . Also I’m available on many other platforms links in the left column at the top.
