Here Comes Sickness
So I’ve struggled this year a myriad of illness and life getting in the way. No matter what though I’ve managed to continue running. Yes it may not be as good as last year but I’ve still spent time on my feet. Two weeks ago I had what can only be described as a cluster of migraines. Migraines on consecutive days. Those of you that suffer from migraines will know it is more than just a ‘Headache’.
So I come off that and then start suffering from what can only be described as ‘Runner’s Distress’ but without the running. So after a week off I’m now back running again. The official Traildog was obviously peeved she missed a week running but one of the most frustrating things for me was I so wanted to run but was physically unable. The other thing was my other love which is drawing and art I was unable to do as well so I couldn’t even divert myself with that.
In some ways what shows your strength as a runner isn’t the pounding the miles through pain it isn’t running Marathons, Ultras or 5k’s. What really shows your strength is the ability to stop running to give your body time to repair itself after injury or illness. This year I’ve had a lot of practice with that. I now have around 5 weeks to get back so I’m capable of doing this year’s Dawn till Dusk challenge. If you’d like to know what it involved last year have a look at my previous blogs on it. I’ll announce this years in a few weeks.
In the meantime, it’s pounding some miles with the Traildog and knowing my strength was to listen to my wife when she told me I was too ill to run
