Square Peg Round Hole
In reality I think we’re all square Pegs. I love running but its only one of many things in my life that motivate me. I run by myself, well not quite true I have the official Traildog who accompanies me the majority of the time. I am a bit of an introvert always have been I’m not a club person, I don’t join things easily. Many years ago I realised that not fitting into what was expected can be both Negative and Positive. As a Runner I really don’t fit into any of the groups. I Don’t really race so not a racer I like long Ultra distances but because I don’t really race I don’t fit in the Ultra running Community. I don’t run Marathons so I don’t fit into that box either. What I do do (no sniggering) is run. I run the trails of my Home I run the roads of my home. I run 5k, 10ks or 50k in fact whatever distance takes me at the time.
I don’t see Runners as one thing the same way I don’t see Vegans as one thing. As much as you can call me a Runner or a Vegan I am not the same as all other Runners or Vegans out there. I have different opinions or motivations. I see people trying to fit was is expected of that group. You’re a runner so you must race do a Marathon. Actually, no the only thing every Runner in the world has in common is the fact we open our front doors on a regular basis and go and run. I have that in common with all runners but that’s it. There maybe others out there who like to do the things I do but to use a cliché we must tread our own paths. Run because you love to because it’s what you do don’t run to fit into the round hole because in all likelihood you will then fall out of love with it
