Weekly Review – W/E – 14/2/2016 – Feel the Love
In a week that asics purchased Runkeeper and we all felt the love how was it for you? I felt I had a good week running I was consistent though I did swap days for my long run so I could spend more time with Mrs VR on Valentines. At present the majority of my kilometres are on the road but considering the state of the winter roads it can feel like trails though. I’m hoping to hit the trails a wee bit more over the next few weeks. I got my two swim sessions in as I wanted. I do a quick 30 min session on Wednesday’s in conjunction with a short 5/6k run. Wednesday’s session wasn’t the best, I go at a time that there is only one lane for lane swimming and normally there aren’t many people using it. Many times it’s just me or one other person. Wednesday though that other person seemed to have no self awareness and had invented a new octopus stroke in order to take over the whole lane. Fridays hour session was a totally different case with a considerate lane partner. There will always be problems like this and I just have to work around them because unless I suddenly come into a lot of money (unlikely) and can buy my own swimming pool it’s what I have to do to get the swims in.
Also this week the official traildog came into season. So it means we can’t push our distances together for a couple of weeks. I’m just going to be trying for her not to lose too much fitness so on days she’s up to it we’ll do a short 5k together at times other dogs aren’t out and about. Hopefully in a couple of weeks normal service will resume.
I had some good news via Twitter the other day. I have one a competition with sportsshoes.com to win some asics running gear. Not exactly sure what it contains as it’s pretty vague so I’ll see when it arrives from asics. It’s good though that’s the second competition I’ve won in 6 months so I must be hitting a lucky streak. I’ll let you know what the prize contains when it arrives.
Talking of asics it seems that they have bought the Runkeeper app. Personally I’ve never used the app (it’s not available on Windows phones) it seems though to be a trend of sports companies buying theses apps in a way of them offering a complete environment. In the same way that Under Armour owns endomondo and my fitness pal. All I hope is that these things stay independent so you can still easily use a different brand of technology along with your favoured software. It would be a pain to be tied into one companies products only. Runkeeper though will be a fantastic source of data for asics and will open a lot of marketing opportunities for them.
Also in the past week Callum Nuff set a new world record for the Half marathon with a stroller. I have enough problems coordinating my feet so much respect. Have a good week and don’t trip over your feet.
