Weekly Review – W/E 10/1/2015
Through the night I could hear the winds and rain battering the house. It’s not the ferocity of the winds that was the issue 50mph winds gusting to 60 or 70mph are frequent over the winter months. The direction makes a difference though. Many nights like this you wouldn’t hear the noise. People who know me know I run in all weathers I had 15kms scheduled on the books today. As I mentioned last week I’m in the base building phase. So when I got up first thing I took the dogs out. People say it’s raining cats and dogs well with the gusting winds it was almost raining Labrador and Golden Retriever’s.
It takes a lot for me to abandon a run but over the past couple of years depending where I am in my running year I’ve learned when is the correct time to hold my hands up. Today was one of those days in reality if I’d gone out I would have been lucky to run 3k before I would have had to call it quits. So today is a housework day. My basebuilding plan is adjustable so instead of the 10k tomorrow I’ll do 15k. Sometimes causing yourself misery and following the ‘plan’ pedantically will not give you any gains and unsurprisingly just make you miserable.
The rest of the week has been a lot more successful some nice steady runs I managed a swim mid week and it was great to get back in the pool. Friday was a lovely wee run with the official traildog. It was a wet evening run by headtorch and with encouragement we ran faster than we have for a while ignoring my present mantra of slow steady miles. It was fun and that’s what running should be. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that.
Next week an increase in mileage (in this metric age why’s it not kilometreage?) another swim and some more fun with the official traildog all in cold weather by the sound of the forecast. Have a great week ..
