It’s all about Balance
N.B. Apologies for the overuse of the word ‘balance’
Today I received a new set of kitchen scales for some strange reason this excites me. Maybe it’s being a Libran (don’t worry I do know Astrology is Hokum). I’ve learned a lot about balance over the past 6 or 8 months. While pushing yourself to run further distances it’s about getting the balance between pushing yourself to get better and not pushing too much as to over extend yourself. The thing is we are all difference what is another runners too much may be to steal a quote from the 3 bears is my ‘just right’. One of the things that got unbalanced when I was pushing the distances was the concentration on longer slower runs. I love running long but over the months the constant only long runs made my overall pace struggle. So to bring things back in balance I now have a sprinkling of shorter faster paced which not only is bringing my pace back but are fun. You can take all the advice and read everything about your training but that balance in the end comes down to personal trial and error. Just because something works for a professional or is a known ‘rule’ does not automatically mean it’s right for you and your balance
Balance needs to be in every part of your life balance your hobbies and health with time with your family. Sometimes the scales will tip one way or another but at some point they need to come back into balance because without that balance we can’t do what we do in a sustainable and enjoyable way. I like yoga I really don’t do enough of it but that’s one thing that yoga can teach you is about balance of both body and mind.
