Smell the Coffee
Sometimes we need to wake up and smell the coffee. We sometimes need to realise that it’s not all about performance training and reaching certain goals. At times it’s about where we are and enjoying the moment. Monday was such a moment I had scheduled in my brain an evening of grinding hill repeats. It was late in the evening and the sun was just setting and I could see the glow in the sky. I knew that hill repeats would be a waste of such a beautiful evening. So I decided to just run. Run with no purpose other than to enjoy the moment.
I informed Mrs ROE that my ETA could be variable and just ran. I gently ran past the park towards the Harbour and the waterfront while taking in the glow of the sun as it went down behind an Island. As I headed outside the town the glorious colours of reds and oranges could be seen along the skyline. I stopped for a second to take the sunset in. I was annoyed I didn’t have my camera with me so I attempted a picture on my phone (which came out better than expected). I continued my circuit of the town. The sun had finally set and as I headed down a hill towards the bay. I had no headtorch and it was a dark night so I had to take it steady in an area with no lighting. It felt good though I just continued to run. As I headed along the beach front I was nearly home with a realisation that I’d been running 2 hours without even thinking about it. I really could smell the coffee.
