Comfortable, who’s comfortable?
I love variation in my runs, sometimes though running the same places week after week can make it difficult. This week though showed me how varied I can make my frequent routes. I went from grinding hill repeats to a long hot run with the trailhound to night runs in the rain by headtorch on the trails. The way my life goes it’s difficult to have a specific time to run everyday. This though can be seen as a positive it means one day I may see the sunrise and the following day I may see a sunset. You see all ends of the day and never get into what I call the time rut. I have found in the past if I run the same time everyday that on the odd days I run at different times I struggle. So to me having to move my running around to fit in my day is a boon to not getting overly comfortable.
You have to work with the seasons and the weather but sometimes you just need to just lace up the shoes and put one foot in front of the other. I know just over the horizon is Autumn. Autumn is a great time to run the freshness in the air is wonderful. We don’t have many trees around here so I don’t get the joy of running through fallen leaves which is a shame but I do get the joy of running along the beach on a fresh Autumn morning. After that we hit the short day’s of Winter when running in daylight is a treat but the thing then is to embrace the bad weather. Embrace the cold the wind and the snow. To me weather is not an excuse to not go running outside but the reason to go running outside.
Lets not however wish the remains of the Summer away. As myself and the official traildog will be out on the trails making the most of what good weather we have. I hope to see you out there, no matter the Weather.
