Every Day is a winding Road …..
So after my recovery week it’s time to look at my running/training for the next few months. One of my aims is to get the flow of my running how it was before I was training specifically for the Ultra. I did many things right in my Ultra training but I also did many things wrong (all discussions for a later post). One of the thing’s that works well for me is running on feel. I have vague plans but they are not set in stone. At the moment I have a vague plan around my Birthday (September) to run part of the coast path around a 30 mile trail route. My main aim over the next few months though is just to run. Last week my recovery week I ran just under 30 miles so I’ll be hiking it up 10 miles a week for the next few weeks so I’m back up to 70ish miles a week. I’m also going to be training up Myka the traildog to get her endurance back up now her season has finished.
Over the past few months getting in the long miles I’ve lost a bit of my top end speed. I’ve never been the fastest runner preferring the long slow distances but concentrating on running distance has scrubbed a bit of speed off. So I’m going to introduce an interval session in a week as much as it’s not fun it does help. I have a 4 mile flattish circuit that I would love to do in less than 30 minutes by the back of the year. Is that possible? I don’t know but I’ll give it a go. I’m also going to put in 1 or 2 swimming sessions a week back in as this has always helped my overall strength. My main way though of improving my speed will be finally losing that last Stone in weight so my nutrition will be dialled in over the next few weeks. If I’m carrying less weight I’ll move faster that’s just physics even though I generally don’t look like I need to lose more weight I’m still technically over weight so that needs to finally go. As always with my running plans they are up for change at any point just because that’s how I go.
My main aim over the next few weeks though is to relax enjoy the trails with my traildog and continue working on my ridiculous Runners suntan.
