So is One the loneliest number? Most things we do in life are solitary even if other people are there it all comes down to yourself and your personal motivation.
Running is a solitary thing. I’d like to be able to run with others but my life makes that difficult. No matter even if I was running with others it would still be up to me. What motivates me to do what I do is hard to pin down. Sometimes it’s the rush of running down rocky descents at speed other days it’s the sense of achievement when you run a distance you’ve never run. Other times it’s just the ability to be able to place one foot in front of another and the realisation you are able to do this when others are not.
The only person that can get me to lace up those running shoes is me. My wife can encourage me but it’s down to me. In the same way anything that you wish to achieve the only person that can do it in the end is yourself. Things get tough no matter how much you love doing something at times you will hate it. It’s understanding that there will be these times and except and embrace them for the strength that they give us. In some ways Charles Dickens had it right ‘It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness’. So One maybe the loneliest number but it is also the number with the most potential because after one is two, three, four ……….
