One thing about running with a dog is the joy they have just for the act of running. I run with Myka my lab several times a week she will happily run up to 12 miles and more. In the summer once I get her a special Ruffwear harness that means she can carry her own hydration I’m planning on pushing her distance more. I know no matter what she will be enthusiastic about it. Anyway Wednesday’s run was a trail run up a big hill what was so good about it was Myka was able to go off lead for 80% of it as the heavily pregnant sheep had been moved to fields further way. After days of pounding the roads in less than ideal conditions this was such a lift and seeing the little girl with such joy is always heartwarming.
I am though totally convinced that when off lead she runs twice the distance. Not to get all philosophical but watching her run is like an affirmation of life. She loves to run with me and you can see it in her every time. It reinforces to me that no matter what to make the most of what we have.
So when we continued past the farm tracks we took the single track to the summit. At that point it was time for a High Five celebration.
