Run Free, Run Slow – Epilogue
So after my Epiphany on Running slow I experimented last night. So I had a theory that my aerobic capacity and fitness should be pretty good as I can comfortably swim for 2 hours at a reasonable intensity and I walk daily between 5 and 10 miles. So on last nights run I headed on on one of my Dog walk routes that I new was around 2 and half miles. I new this could be pushing it a little adding a mile to my achievement of the other day.
I left the house and tried to get into my slow pace after 5 minutes I started to feel comfortable. Then I hit the hill, the hill I’d forgotten about when planning this route! It went on and on and well on but I wasn’t going to stop. I then hit the corner and the long straight past the cows in the field. I felt comfortable and continued around the corner into the residential area with only around half a mile to go. The last bit included some offroad track and a steep climb to my house but I did it! 2.5 miles continuous running yes it was slow but it was comfortable and shows me I can run and that I could comfortably run a 5K. It’s just a great feeling realising that I can actually run. So aim over the next few weeks is to alternate my shorter and longer runs and do some intervals with my lab. This of course on top of my normal swimming and Dog walking. Although my swimming could be a bit less due to my impending house move.
On another front I’ve lost another 3 pounds so that’s 82 pounds in total. Still a way to go but getting there.
